6th Year LCVP Charity Fundraiser

6th year LCVP students had an exciting visit from @gspca.help and their very cute rescue dog Heidi today!

The class were delighted to welcome Shelly and Bridie from GSPCA, as they raised €128 as part of their LCVP Enterprise project “candy cane secret share” and donated it to them.

The funds will go towards vet bills and essential care for the animals GSPCA take care of every day.

Berja Diaries: Day 4

Creativity and collaboration at its best!

Our students took part in a photo competition where mixed teams were given prompts and challenged to capture the perfect shot. After some fantastic entries, Team Celtiberia were crowned winners and presented with a mug featuring their winning photo, a brilliant keepsake!

Collaboration continued during the Olympic Games activity, where GETSS students read out clues in English for their Spanish teammates to complete their mission. It was full of laughter, teamwork and new friendships.

Exploring the beauty of Cabo de Gata ️

Guided by Erasmus+ coordinator José, our group visited the breathtaking Cabo de Gata. We learned all about the history behind the area and even the origin of its name.

We took in the spectacular views of Playa de los Muertos, enjoyed some time on the beach, and were lucky enough to spot flamingos in the wild!

An unforgettable day filled with history, nature and sunshine.

Bus Eireann School Transport Portal is now Open

School Transport Applications – 2026/2027

The School Transport Scheme, operated by Bus Éireann on behalf of the Department of Education and Youth, will open on Friday 27 March for applications and payments. The closing date for payments is Friday, 8 May 2026 and a full media campaign will begin shortly.

Ukraine/IPAS applications

In order to fully integrate all pupils using mainstream school transport, all pupils who have arrived in Ireland from Ukraine and all pupils residing in IPAS/EROC centres will be required to apply for mainstream school transport by the deadline date of 8 May also. This will mean that all families, living in accommodation centres, IPAS centres, modular homes, with host families, and living independently, should now apply on the Bus Éireann family portal. Failure to apply and pay or enter medical card details will mean that a ticket will not be offered.

Ticket Prices for 2026/2027

A 2024 review of the School Transport Scheme found that having a fee helps use resources more effectively and prevents bus seats from going unused, helping to protect and sustain the scheme for all families who needs it. The review recommended that families using the mainstream scheme should contribute a fee to help protect and sustain the service for all who depend on it. The Government has announced that school transport ticket prices for 2026/27 school year are as follows:

Primary: €100 per child (maximum family charge €200)
Post-primary: €100 per child (maximum family charge €220)

This is equivalent to:

55c per day for primary school pupils
60c per day for post-primary‑ pupils

No family will pay more than €1.32c per day in total, regardless of how many children use the service. A facility to pay in instalments is now available to families.

School transport will continue to be free for:

All eligible families with a medical card, and
All eligible children using the Special Educational Needs (SEN) transport scheme

Science in Spain!

Our students had the opportunity to work in the science lab with Agustín, where they explored geology in a hands-on way. A highlight was seeing his incredible rock collection — a fascinating insight into the geology of the region.

It was fantastic to see learning come alive in such an engaging setting. Erasmus+ in action!

TY Brigit’s Garden Trip

10 TYs attended a GCE workshop in Brigit’s Garden today, along with 4 other Galway schools. They participated in active workshops in the beautiful gardens and attended a talk from Palestinian academic and activist, Amani Kamal, who shared a powerful message on the importance of creating social impact through community outreach. The Gate’s Poor Livestream

Today, our 5th Years got the opportunity to watch a livestream from the @gatetheatredublin of their production of Poor by Katrina O’Sullivan.

This play tackled a wide range of themes and was brilliantly presented. We really appreciate the efforts made by the Gate to create accessible theatre to all, especially with a story that is so powerful.

JC Gaeilge Distinctions Awards

A special event was held in Galway University last week for students who passed with distinction in the Higher Level Irish Junior Cycle exam. We are certainly very proud of our students who worked very hard to achieve this. Well done Sam, Annie and Sadhbh!
