Hazel Gilligan - Special Education Teacher

Hazel graduated with a B.A in Geography and Sociology & Politics from NUI Galway in 2014, before going on to graduate with a Professional Master of Education from NUI Galway and qualifying as a Geography and CSPE teacher in 2019. During this time Hazel’s research was largely focused on the benefits of inclusivity within the school setting and firmly believes in encouraging inclusive education as a whole school approach. Hazel is passionate about supporting students to integrate into their school community to develop a sense of belonging and also to equip them with the skills to become better prepared for life outside of school. Hazel believes that inclusion provides better opportunities for learning and for students to access the curriculum, while also building relationships and improving social skills.

In 2020 Hazel completed a course in Special Needs Assisting and worked as a Student Support Assistant before joining the teaching team for 2023-2024.

Hazel also has a keen interest in health and wellbeing, with a particular interest in sports and staying fit and active. Hazel is an avid hockey player and also coaches both hockey and soccer in her free time. She is looking forward to getting involved in extra-curricular activities and after school clubs and encouraging positive mental health and wellbeing through sport and exercise.
