Tara Nestor - Special Education Teacher

Tara has a B.A in Psychology and Geography, a Masters in Education (Research focus was on the benefits of implementing group work within the classroom). She has also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs at Saint Angelas College Sligo, where she has focused on Specific learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia and ADHD. She has also studied Autism Spectrum Disorder in depth. Tara strongly believes in Applied Behaviour Analysis approach for teaching students with autism and designs her education plans implementing this approach.

Tara has experience teaching Learning Support in a range of schools in Galway including Archbishop McHale College Tuam and Claregalway Secondary School. During her teaching profession to date, she has occupied the role of class tutor, anchor for students with additional educational needs and a member of the Health and Safety and Global Citizens Education committee.

Tara is passionate about student centred learning and innovative teaching. Tara strongly believes in restorative practice, fostering and developing strong student teacher relationships. Tara is also passionate and interested in Athletics and likes to promote movement among the staff and students. Coming from Tara’s Psychology background she believes in promoting growth mindsets among the students as she has studied modules such as positive psychology. Tara believes in the importance of student well-being, by promoting practices such as meditation, sitting yoga and gratitude within her classes to aid student’s mind and body.
