Galway ETSS Awarded Champion School of Sanctuary

Galway Educate Together Secondary School (GETSS) is proud to announce that we have been awarded Champion School of Sanctuary status. This recognition celebrates our commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where every student feels accepted and valued, regardless of background or differences.

Our mission is to ensure that students from marginalised communities- including refugees, migrants, LGBTQIA+, neurodiverse learners, and members of the Travelling community – are understood, supported, and celebrated.

To achieve this, we worked closely with students, families, staff, and the wider community to fulfil the School of Sanctuary framework: Learn, Action, Share. These principles guide us in building a culture of empathy, intercultural understanding, and kindness.

We first signed our School of Sanctuary pledge in January 2023, and since then, we have been on an inspiring journey toward becoming a beacon of sanctuary and inclusion. We were awarded our Champion School Status in November 2024, making GETSS the first secondary school in Galway to achieve this status.
