Kevin Crowley- English, CSPE and Politics and Society
Kevin was born in Belgium to Irish parents, spending all of his childhood at an international school in Brussels and visiting Ireland before moving to Galway to attend the University of Galway in 2018. After completing his undergraduate degree in English and Politics & Sociology, he pursued further education in the form of a research Masters focused on United States involvement in the Northern Ireland peace process. Following a year at GETSS for his final student-teacher placement, Kevin is now thrilled to be a full-time member of the team.
As an English, CSPE and Politics & Society teacher, Kevin always emphasises critical thinking as an important skill to his students. In his classroom, student voice is prevalent as Kevin believes learning should be shaped by the interests and attitudes of those learning. An Educate Together school revealed itself to Kevin as the place he wished to work as the diversity, inclusivity and democratic-nature of teaching and learning aligned with his personal philosophy and background of education.
Beyond his academic interests, Kevin has an avid passion for sports and currently coaches the GETSS U-15 boys soccer team. Despite the pain Kevin suffers from watching both Manchester and Galway United weekly, he loves the time he spends with students during football training or trips, believing that sport is a great medium for young people to develop crucial life skills like communication, accountability, and respect. He also loves all types of music – although his tastes are somewhat old-fashioned for some of his students – and regularly tries to sneak lyrics into some of his lessons. Kevin is also a part of the school’s Erasmus+ committee, playing a role in raising students and parents/guardians’ awareness of the programme’s benefits like cultural diversity and exchange.
