The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) is an optional, two-year programme that enhances the traditional Leaving Certificate by integrating practical, career-focused learning. It is designed to prepare students for the world of work and further education through a blend of academic subjects and enterprise-based modules.

Students who take LCVP engage in additional ‘Link Modules’ such as “Preparation for the World of Work” and “Enterprise Education,” which include activities like work experience, CV writing, interviews, and business projects. These modules help develop key skills in communication, initiative, and teamwork.

Please note that the availability of LCVP may change year on year, depending on staffing allocations and resources provided by the Department of Education.

The Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) is a two-year senior cycle programme designed for students who prefer practical, hands-on learning over traditional academic study. It focuses on preparing students for life after school, whether that means further education, training, or entering the workforce. Unlike the current traditional Leaving Certificate, the LCA uses continuous assessment throughout the programme rather than relying solely on final exams. Students gain valuable experience through work placements and engage in subjects such as English, Maths, Social Education, Vocational Preparation, and a range of electives like Art or Technology.

The programme also emphasises personal development, helping students build communication, teamwork, and responsibility skills. LCA graduates can progress to Post-Leaving Certificate (PLC) courses, apprenticeships, or direct employment. It’s an ideal option for students who learn best by doing and want a more active, practical route through senior cycle.
