Orlaith Devlin - English, EAL & AEN Teacher

Orlaith is originally from Galway and studied Gaeilge, Irish Studies, and English as parts of her BA which she undertook in the University of Galway. During her undergrad, Orlaith fell in love with learning and literature, with a particular enthusiasm for Irish literature. Wanting to pursue her passion for education and literature, Orlaith went on to study her Professional Masters in Education, with a specialisation in English.

Orlaith thoroughly enjoyed her final year of placement as a student teacher, which she undertook in GETSS. She also worked as a classroom assistant for the University of Galway’s Youth Academy and as a tutor for the university’s ‘Grinds4Mincéirs’ programme, which provided grinds and support for students from the travelling community aspiring to go to university.

Orlaith returned to GETSS in 2023 as a qualified teacher and is now teaching English and English as an Additional Language, and is also providing additional learning support to students. Orlaith is a passionate believer in the power of Restorative Practice and in the ‘Theory of Care’, and leads with these principles in all of her lessons.

Outside of school, Orlaith has danced both competitively and professionally for eighteen years and is channelling this passion into her participation in the production of the school musical. Orlaith also incorporates her passion for reading and literature into her organisation of the school library and her in co-producing the school magazine.
